Carry-on Sizing by Airline

Hand luggage criteria vary airline by airline, as does their lenience and tolerance to excesses.

It’s safest to check the restrictions of your airline before you fly.

The general large hand luggage size is 21.5 x 13.5 x 7.5 in/ 54 x 34 x 19 cm (including handles, pockets and wheels) and the small personal item size- for those airlines that allow it- is 15.7 x 7.9 x 9.8 in/ 40 x 20 x 25 cm.

We’ve collated some of the top airlines and their guidelines as a quick reference, but recommend going directly to their website to check out whether there are different criteria for your particular flight.

TIP: airlines often include the luggage criteria on the check-in confirmation email or on the app.
